Cause of Rosacea

January 19, 2012 – 5:09 pm

Rosacea is a chronic skin condition, and while it is usually considered harmless (unless it reaches the eyes), the psychological effects of Rosacea are far from harmless. In some cases the outbreak is not intense, and symptoms can be ignored; but many others suffer through intense humiliation due to the rosacea symptoms, characterized by redness, and facial bumps. The actual cause of rosacea is unknown, but researchers believe it’s likely due to some combination of hereditary and environmental factors. It typically affects Caucasians, both male and female, aged between 30 and 60. One of the most important things you can do if you have rosacea is to minimize your exposure to anything that causes a flare-up. Exposure to temperature extremes can cause the face to become flushed as well as strenuous exercise, heat from sunlight, severe sunburn, stress, anxiety, cold wind, and moving to a warm or hot environment from a cold one such as heated shops and offices during the winter. You have to note all things that trigger your flare-ups, and try to avoid them. There are also some food and drinks that can trigger flushing, such as spicy food, alcohol, hot tea and coffee. Certain medications and topical irritants can quickly trigger rosacea.
